Welcome
Welcome to the wonderful world of EFT-SA! My name is Cathie van Rooyen and I have been practising EFT since 2001. I love the simplicity of the technique and am so impressed by the astounding results, I want to share it all with you! My practice is based in Gauteng, but because of the ease of EFT I have regular clients on the telephone or on the internet. My EFT approach is unique, yet draws heavily upon core EFT principles, as taught by Gary Craig. For complete, standardized EFT training (including the free weekly EFT Newsletter, the free manual) visit www.emofree.com. At present Gary's training DVD's are not obtainable from Gary's site to be delivered in SA, due to postage problems within SA.
What is Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) ?
It originated in the States by a psychiatrist, Dr Roger Callaghan as Thought Field Therapy (TFT), and was adapted and introduced by Gary Craig in 1995 as EFT. Classed under the banner of Energy Healing, EFT is the strangest, simplest way to get rid of negative habits, thoughts and feelings forever! Based on the ancient principles of acupuncture, EFT is a simple tapping procedure that gently realigns the body’s energy system, without the discomfort of needles. You do not even need to spend thousands of Rands on machines, medicines or equipment as you use your own fingers to do the tapping! Unlike other energy healing methods, EFT incorporates an emotional element to the healing process, addressing unresolved emotional issues as a likely cause of physical disease, psychological dysfunction, and personal performance limits.

Why South Africa?
South Africa really needs an intervention! With the medical aids reeling under the financial pressure and with the alarming statistics of people with HIV/AIDS EFT is just what we need. There are many people in SA who are suffering and EFT is a quick, inexpensive way of helping people overcome their pains. This is a method that once learnt can be used anywhere, anytime by yourself, for yourself!

How long has EFT been in South Africa?
It is fairly new to SA, with the earliest practitioners using it in the year 2000. It has received a huge increase in popularity and many practitioners are being added daily to the International EFT Website. In September 2003, Essentials Magazine interviewed me for an article on ‘How to Tap your way to better health’. It had a good response and in June the following year, Woman and Home interviewed me for an article on building confidence and was one of several Natural Modalities offered. EFT has also been mentioned in several other publications, including Renaissance, SHAPE as well as The Natal Witness.
Its effectiveness in SA has been proven time and time again, as there are many sad stories of trauma, loss and hardships which have been quickly and safely resolved using EFT under the guidance of experienced practitioners.

How does it work?
The magic of EFT is that you do not have to believe in it in order for it to work! The science behind it is a bit vague, but my understanding of it is that you are getting your brain in on the ‘action’! The emotional element is the motivating part. How you feel about an event is more important than what actually happened in the event. This ‘feeling’ can be a simple physical feeling somewhere in the body or otherwise simply that a statement ‘is true’. By concentrating on this specific feeling, usually negative or uncomfortable, we tap on various points on the head, face and abdomen. Sometimes the practitioner does the tapping on the client, sometimes the tapping is done by the client.
