I want to welcome you to the wonderful, strange world of EFT-SA! My name is Cathie van Rooyen and I have been practising EFT since 2001. I love the simplicity of the technique and am so impressed by the astounding results, I want to share it all with you! My practice is based in Gauteng, but because of the ease of EFT I have regular clients on the telephone or on the internet.

My EFT approach is unique, yet draws heavily upon core EFT principles, as taught by the renowned EFT founder, Gary Craig. I am now a student of Gary Craig's Optimal EFT instruction at http://optimal-eft.emofree.com For complete, standardized EFT training (including the free weekly EFT Newsletter, the free manual) visit the world centre of EFT. There are also other people's training video's available to purchase on the www.eftuniverse.com site, or check out my links page to see what is on offer.

I am now so impressed with a new method available that I integrate it into my tapping sessions. It is called PSTEC and there is more information available on this page This method is so good at clearing negative issues quickly and swiftly, that my sessions will not be complete without using it! The session incorporates an exploratory conversation whilst tapping at the same time, and when appropriate I utilize the 'click track' of PSTEC. EFT was the pre-cursor for this advanced method of clearing issues, and tapping will always be used within the context of my sessions, but the usefulness of the PSTEC is vast and exciting, and I feel a renewed enthusiasm for the methods available in the world of energy psychology.

What is Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) ?

The development of “emotional acupuncture”, as it is sometimes referred to, was indirectly assisted by Dr. George Goodheart, a well known chiropractor in the United States.  Building on the work of Goodheart, in the 1970's an Australian psychiatrist, John Diamond, M.D., created a variation, which he called “Behavioral Kinesiology”.  Diamond used affirmations when the person touched selected acupuncture points, and did this specifically to treat emotional problems. His innovative departure in this respect foreshadowed the later development of the “meridian-based therapies” and Energy Psychology, in the forefront of which we find EFT today.
In the States a psychiatrist, Dr Roger Callaghan created Thought Field Therapy (TFT), and this was adapted and introduced by Gary Craig in 1995 as EFT. Classed under the banner of Energy Healing, EFT is the strangest, simplest way to get rid of negative habits, thoughts and feelings forever! Based on the ancient principles of acupuncture, EFT is a simple tapping procedure that gently realigns the body’s energy system, without the discomfort of needles. You do not even need to spend thousands of Rands on machines, medicines or equipment as you use your own fingers to do the tapping! Unlike other energy healing methods, EFT incorporates an emotional element to the healing process, addressing unresolved emotional issues as a likely cause of physical disease, psychological dysfunction, and personal performance limits.

Why South Africa?

South Africa really needs an intervention! With the medical aids reeling under the financial pressure and with the alarming statistics of people with HIV/AIDS, serious illness and the effects of crime, tapping is just what we need. There are many people in SA who are suffering and this is a quick, inexpensive way of helping people overcome their pains. Once learnt this can be used anywhere, anytime by yourself, for yourself!

How long has EFT been in South Africa?

It is fairly new to SA, with the earliest practitioners using it in the year 2000. It has received a huge increase in popularity and many practitioners are being added daily to the International EFT Website. In September 2003, Essentials Magazine interviewed me for an article on ‘How to Tap your way to better health’. It had a good response and in June the following year, Woman and Home interviewed me for an article on building confidence and was one of several Natural Modalities offered. EFT has also been mentioned in several other publications, including Renaissance, SHAPE as well as The Natal Witness.

Its effectiveness in SA has been proven time and time again, as there are many sad stories of trauma, loss and hardships which have been quickly and safely resolved using EFT under the guidance of experienced practitioners.

How does it work?

The magic of EFT is that you do not have to believe in it in order for it to work! The science behind it is a bit vague, but my understanding of it is that you are getting your brain in on the ‘action’! The emotional element is the motivating part. How you feel about an event is more important than what actually happened in the event. This ‘feeling’ can be a simple physical feeling somewhere in the body or otherwise simply that a statement ‘is true’. By concentrating on this specific feeling, usually negative or uncomfortable, we tap on various points on the head, face and abdomen. Sometimes the practitioner does the tapping on the client, sometimes the tapping is done by the client.

What can it be used for?

It can be used for anything and is used for everything. It has tremendous success in weight loss and weight control, helping to curb cravings and increase the desire for exercise. It has been used to great effect for victims of trauma and recurring disturbing thoughts. Aches and pains, headaches, cramps, breathing difficulties and any other physical ailment you can think of. It has also showed tremendous results in enhancing performance, by means of getting any destructive negative thought patterns out of the way. It removes phobias, fears and eradicates self-doubt. It is useful in enhancing self-esteem and self-confidence and can be an excellent calming method. EFT should ALWAYS be used  under the guidance of you medical care practitioner.

Who can use it?

EFT is so easy and simple to use it can be done by everyone. People of all ages, from grandparents to kids have found it simple and easy to use.  It is extremely affordable and it will not interfere or affect any other treatment method.
Disclaimer: Please note that by agreeing to sessions you accept full responsibility for your own physical and emotional well being. For all medical conditions please remain under the advisement of your medical practitioner

How can I learn it?

EFT for personal usage is easy and quick to learn. After one session with a practitioner you should be able to tap easily for smaller issues.  For more involved emotional healing to occur, it is recommended that you find an experienced practitioner. You can download the manual free.
